“Leadership” seems to be one of those words that is thrown around, over-used, and under-minded. However, the question you need to ask yourself is “What Does It Mean To You?”

Here is my perspective on the two types of “Leadership”.

A Leader by Title

In order to be a “leader”, one does not have to have any special skill or knowledge or credentials. They need only be the first one who got in line that day, such as a group of children following another child. A leader by title is often neither efficient nor effective, but they will lead you somewhere.

A Great Leader

Great leaders do not create followers; great leaders create other leaders. The “leader by title” goes through the motions without any true effort into leading a team of followers. Great leadership has less to do with looking over the shoulders of people and more to do with empowering others to look over their own shoulders after they have properly been trained. (more…)
